A new law in the republic of Ireland criminalizes a man who purchases sex from a trafficked woman. The man could receive a jail sentence of five years. A hard hitting advertisement is to start soon. It sounds a better law than what is being proposed in the UK, where 90% of purchases could be criminalized. The UK law proposes to criminalise a man who purchases sex from some one who is controlled for gain. This means all brothels and agencies. I do hope the republic of Ireland's law on a trafficked woman is not quite so encompassing as the UK's law. In the UK virtually anyone travelling to or inside the country who was aided by someone else, who knew the woman was going to work in an illegal sex activity (brothel, agency) can be considered trafficked. This is irrespective of whether she voluntarily and legally entered the country and voluntarily works in the sex industry.
