So you might wonder, is prostitution legal in Germany?

Well, yeah, it is. The German government lets people sell sex and even taxes them for it. The US might be famous for its sex industry but Germany makes a whopping 15 billion Euros every year from it. That’s like $18 Billion in US dollars. Germany has 400,000 hookers working every day. That’s more than any other country in Europe per person.

Before 1927, prostitution was illegal in Germany because there was no law about it. Then they passed a law in 1927 that made prostitution legal, the law was called the Law for Combating Venereal Diseases. They gave more rights to the hookers with another law called Prostitution Act in 2002. The idea was to give them social security and health insurance and benefits. The law also wanted to make their lives better by giving them legal rights to work contracts and have security and fair pay.
