Mikey Madison, star of the film Anora, used her acceptance speech for Best Leading Actress at the BAFTA Film Awards to express solidarity with sex workers. In Anora, Madison portrays a sex worker from Brooklyn who unexpectedly marries the son of a Russian oligarch. After winning the award, Madison stated, "I do want to just take a moment to recognize the sex worker community. I just want to say that I see you. You deserve respect and human decency. I will always be a friend and ally.” Her statement emphasized respect and human rights for sex workers.
Madison also thanked her mother for her support and acknowledged her fellow nominees, expressing admiration for their performances. Anora received seven BAFTA nominations in total, winning two, including Best Leading Actress and Best Casting.
