A man has been jailed for six months for managing a brothel from his Cambridge home. Guichen Ren, of Sturton Street, was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday, June 26, after pleading guilty to managing a brothel used for prostitution.
Police first discovered women working as sex workers at Ren's address in May last year during a welfare check prompted by flyers advertising sexual services. Undercover officers were shown into the property by Ren.
After his initial arrest and release on bail, investigators in March of this year found a mobile number linked to Ren on an online advertisement for sexual services. When contacted, Ren responded to inquiries about the brothel and promised sexual encounters in exchange for money. He again allowed officers into the property, leading to his second arrest.
DC Steph Barnes-Dunlop, the investigating officer, stated, "Ren controlled and governed the lives of vulnerable women for his own financial gain so I am pleased he is now behind bars." She urged the public to report any suspicious or exploitative activity to help protect vulnerable individuals.
