A war is raging inside Americas largest Feminist group about sex work. The leadership of The National Organisation for Women (NOW) has made in plain they do not support decriminalization of sex work. Toni Van Pelt, the 72-year-old leader came out against the Washington DC bill. This shocked the local chapter headed by Monica Weeks who never opposed decriminalization and had been working on testimony to support it.

Internally there is a backlash brewing. Younger members and WOCs are frustrated by the leadership's refusal to listen to them. After the DC testimony, the DC board write to Van Pelt, blasting the president's dehumanizing language. Van  Pelt did not respond, so Monica Weeks has forwarded letters to all the county state presidents. Other chapter leaders have been seething since the National convention in July, where the Nordic model was presented by Van Pelt. The resolutions did not make it to a vote
